195 Ste. Marie Street

1½ storey, wood-frame house clad in vinyl siding and having projecting, gabled central bay, and replacement, ground-floor entrance and picture windows (c. 1870?).

Description – While modern cladding, windows and awning suggest a recent structure, massing, proportions and sagging roofline indicate an aged house trapped in the skin of an adolescent. Modern, half-glazed, steel front door is framed by unusual, opaque, side panels and siding above, suggesting an original central door with half-glazed sidelights and transom windows - original materials may remain behind panels. Huge, single-pane windows at either side probably replace taller, typical 2/2, windows in reframed apertures. At upper floor, central bay, 1/1 window is also a recent replacement, though in this case with trim which echoes proportions of traditional casings.
