246 & 250 Hurontario Street Modern, low, two-storey, red-brick, commercial corner building (c. 1990). Description General rules of symmetry, pier spacing, wall material and brick patterns are observed, but result is very dull. At ground floor, shop fronts have traditional form, but are built of anodized aluminum, including flush, metal panels in place of stall-riser and recessed entries to sides within each bay. Matching, back-lit box signs have simple modest lettering. Brick piers have recessed central panels but are otherwise plain. Flat lintels have soldier course on concealed steel structure. At second floor, six uniformly spaced, square, metal-frame windows occupy flat wall, each with metal-flashed sill below fixed, lower sash, and with taller, horizontal-sliders above. Lintels again have soldier-course brick, and additional, projecting, soldier-course band exists at wall-head. Parapet is flashed with pre-painted aluminum. Treatment of north elevation is similar. |
