258 Pine Street

1½ storey, gabled, (painted) red-brick, Victorian house with east verandah and with fine, attenuated bargeboards at east and south gables (c. 1880).

East Elevation – House has rubble stone foundation with cement parging. At LH side, projecting bay has ground-floor, brick, bay window with aluminum, square-headed, single-pane windows with extensive metal flashing, all within segmental arches, and with recessed brick panels below. Balcony above has modern, metal railing, with access via multi-pane, wood, door (behind metal storm). Unusual bargeboards consist of thin-section elements framing extremely attenuated lozenge, with secondary, small, punctured lozenges at centres of pitches, and decorative rings at peak and eaves. A pendant finial marks gable apex. To north, is simple lean-to verandah with square-section posts, and replacement railing with widely spaced pickets. Entry is via half-glazed, wooden door (behind metal storm), with three-sash, replacement, casement window to right within unusual, wide and high, segmental-arch. At second floor, small, steep (Gothic Revival) gablet has 1/1, square-headed, aluminum window with much aluminum trim, within segmental brick arch. Bargeboard, finial and shingle-moulding are as at gable to left. Roof has mottled, light-brown, asphalt shingles and a central brick chimney, with wider base, indicates original wood-stove heating. South Elevation has similar elements, with aluminum windows and central gablet having trim as described.
