53, 55 & 57 Hurontario Street Two-story, six-bay, buff-brick building (c. 1950s?). Irregular grouping of upper windows and general proportions of façade suggest this is a refaced, older building. Ground Floor Three businesses have diverse shop-fronts. North unit (Gold Star Jewellers) is attractive in black granite tiles, this despite plastic pilasters. Southern shop-fronts are standard aluminum, with low stall-risers. Second Floor Upper floor level is very simple - flat wall in running bond with continuous soldier course at level of (hidden, metal) lintels. Window sills are of stone. Bottom slider windows are awful, and not as in Stokes Report, which shows double-hung, Edwardian windows, again suggesting an older building behind. |
