67 Third Street

Diminutive, one-storey, symmetrical, frame house with composite-board siding, 2/2 windows, metal sheet roof and off-centre, single-stack red-brick chimney (c. 1890).

Description – This quaint house seems still smaller in its location next to the mass of the adjacent Baptist Church. 2/2 wooden windows and the narrow chimney indicate the age of the structure, which is otherwise well-disguised by modern materials. Central wooden door is recent (behind modern metal screen door), with pitched, aluminum-clad canopy supported by simple brackets, and with rusting, galvanized sheet metal roof. Other recent material changes are the composite-board siding, the vinyl shutters and the profiled, sheet metal roof.

Comments – This building is not in keeping with the general heritage character of the adjacent Pine Street, but is old and seems in good repair, though metal roofs need replacement soon. The more recent, industrial materials might one day be replaced with suitable vernacular materials (i.e. painted render, or perhaps wood siding at the walls); or the owner may with to build a larger house in keeping with the masonry houses typical in the District, and in accordance with the Plan and Guidelines. Fascias and soffits need repainting.
