67 & 69 Hurontario Street Two storey, three-bay dichromatic brick building with original upper-floor glazing (1890s). Description Ground Floor - Aluminum-framed glazing, with tiled stall-riser, has replaced original shop-front. Entry is now to RH side, adjacent door to upper floors. No masonry is visible at this level, and indeed, right-hand wooden capital (beneath pilaster) seems rudely chopped to accommodate sign. Sign itself is modest, but graces huge plywood fascia with typical, flush-mounted trim. Second Floor - Upper level contains two tall, segmental-arch windows flanking wide, elliptical-arch window. Original, 1/1 windows remain at either side (behind aluminum storms), as do square, lower sash and transom window at central bay. Window sills are of stone. Dichromatic masonry consists of buff-brick walls and red-brick decorative and framing elements, including four pilasters, lintels and projecting, stepped 'pilasters' at upper wall within each bay. Parapet - Parapet reflects articulation elsewhere in façade, with central, projecting red brick panels and dog-toothing across top. Pilasters rise through parapet to form small brick piers. LH pier has corbelled upper courses which may represent former shape of RH counterpart. |
