The Maple Street Methodist Church was constructed in 1863 following a fire that consumed the original frame structure. Built from local materials in a typical Methodist design, the sanctuary served as a religions and social facility for many of our early pioneers. Records indicate that Wesleyan Methodists organized the first religious facility in the early history of our town. Their commitment in 1863 and later expansions in 1893, 1929 and 1958 have solidified this religious mark. In 1925 Methodists, Presbyterians and other small denominations joined to create the United Church of Canada. Trinity United has a tremendous tradition in this community and deserves the historical designation on its edifice.
