Plan 73, W Pt. Lt. 29; Pt. Lt. 28; W Pt. Lt. 30, By-law No. 87-70

Dr. Donald McKay commissioned Architect Philip Palan to design and build this ornate stone dwelling and doctor’s office in 1902. The building occupying a corner lot had two street addresses, the Pine Street entrance to the residence and the Third Street entrance to the doctor’s Office.

The stone on the west and south façade is cut sandstone from the Credit Valley with a pinkish hue originally brought to Collingwood via horse and wagon. This is the only structure in Town of this material.

The architecture incorporates many stylings and the designated facades have many decorative features. The many windows feature both leaded beveled glass with stained glass features. Bays are of three sashes with transom lights, the centre being stained. Ornate gables decorate the front façade with decorative tile and panel inserts. A full turret emerges from the south westerly corner. Self contained eves fill the front facades.

Other noteworthy features are the porch decorating west and south facades. As well the property is enclosed with a magnificent wrought iron fence where it faces the streets. Part of the designated features is also the cast flag pole.

All in all, a unique structure most worthy of designation.
