S. Pt. Lot 12 Plan 282, By-law No. 87-70

Built in 1884 by W.R. Anderson in conjunction with 89-91, the building ownership was split in 1941. Mr. Anderson was the owner of W. R. Anderson and Company wholesale and retail dealers in hardware, stoves, lamps, tin ware and bird cages. The building served as the Bank of Montreal until 1922 when they moved to their present site.

Originally a corner block building facing market square there remains evidence of several openings which may have been small shops opening onto the square.

The original two storey with detailed brick storefront has been retained above the original wood shop front level with the exception of the centre window which has been bricked in and the ornamental wrought iron parapet railing and turned wooden decorative finials which have been removed. Red and buff brick ornamental window lintels and soldier courses in decorative patterns at the roof rafter level.

Restored to it’s original splendor this building would provide us with an impressive corner building anchoring an original building block at the centre of the original commercial district.
