Downtown Heritage Conservation District - Study and Plan Urban Heritage Character Commercial Context
|
Much of the interest in preserving the heritage resources in the Downtown Core springs from a commercial desire to preserve its economic health in the face of a changing economic environment. We emphasize here that, although heritage concerns deal with the products of the past, a Heritage District Plan must firmly face the future. The prospective population growth generated by the tourism and recreational industries can be expected to generate economic and business growth as well. The decision has already been taken by the town that its heritage character will be an important economic asset for attracting business from the growing population. It is important that the boundaries of the District incorporate enough elbow room to allow for this business intensification and the supporting infrastructure, particularly parking and access, that will be required. |
