Downtown Heritage Conservation District - Study and Plan

Urban Heritage Character
Fourth Street

Fourth Street, Block A, West of Pine:

   looking west from Hurontario Street

Completely residential, sharing the character of streets to the north and west. Many fine heritage homes, suitable for inclusion in a possible future Heritage Conservation District.

Fourth Street, Block B, Pine to Hurontario:

North Side: A heritage residence, an unsympathetic semi-detached, and the Mac's Milk store constitute the block. About 25% of the frontage has heritage value.

South Side: A very fine heritage dwelling, a sympathetic modern infill dwelling, a non-heritage context dwelling, and the flank of a modern, unsympathetic commercial building. About 50% of the frontage has heritage value.

Fourth Street, Block C:
Hurontario to Ste. Marie

   looking east from Hurontario Street.

North Side: Flank fo a "hidden treasure" heritage commercial building, with a stretch of Queen Anne cottages interrupted by a pair of modern house-form buildings, sympathetic in scale if not in style. Two on this stretch house commercial uses, the rest are residential. About 75% of the frontage has heritage value.

South Side: A new, fairly sympathetic bank building, followed by a pair of context residences, and the flank of a modern unsympathetic church. No heritage value.

Fourth Street, Block D:
Beyond Ste. Marie

looking east from Ste. Marie Street.

Both corner buildings at Ste. Marie are fine heritage properties. The southern one is strikingly so. The residential area beyond has many heritage buildings of mixed quality.
