Downtown Heritage Conservation District - Study and Plan
Section 4
The Heritage Conservation District
The District Boundary
Part I documents the detailed analysis of the heritage character of the Downtown Core and the heritage resources within it. The Conclusions establish the boundaries for the Collingwood Downtown Heritage Conservation District.
Designated Buildings Within The District
Individual properties, designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, are not permitted to be included in a Heritage Conservation District, designated under Part V of the Act. The District will therefore exclude those properties. The heritage character of the contiguous District will be protected, but by virtue of the provisions of two distinct parts of the Heritage Act.
Activities Subject To Review
The Objectives, Policies, and Guidelines of the Heritage District Plan will be used to review the following types of activity in the District.
-- All construction activity, including new buildings, additions and alterations to existing buildings, and maintenance and repair activity on existing buildings that effects the heritage character of the District.
-- All activity in the District that falls under the purview of the Official Plan, the Zoning By-law, Site Plan Control, the Sign By-Law, the Building Code Act, and the Planning Act. These include activities that require planning permission, site plan review, rezoning, building permits, signage permits, demolition and relocation permits, severances and variances.
-- All visible municipal public works in the District, such as street and sidewalk lighting, street furniture, paving, signage, landscaping and tree planting or removal.
-- All visible work in the District by other levels of government.
