Urban Heritage Character
Third Street/Ontario Street

Third Street, Block A, West of Pine:
Looking west from Pine Street

   Looking west from Pine.
   Steeples punctuate a residential area

Completely residential area, sharing the character of streets to the north and west. Many fine heritage homes.

Third Street, Block B, Pine to Hurontario:

   looking west from Hurontario Street

North Side: Thurso, a grand mansion described with Pine Street, and what may have been its coach house, now converted to commercial use. A small "context" building, a parking pad and the flank of 150 Hurontario Street, another "context" building. About 45% of the frontage has heritage value.

South Side: Heritage residential buildings on the western half of the block, an unsympathetic one-storey modern building and the flank of a modern building at 158 Hurontario. About 50% of the frontage has heritage value.

Ontario Street, Block C:
Hurontario to Ste. Marie

   looking east from Hurontario Street

North Side: Flank of heritage block at No 153 Hurontario and the sympathetic Salvation Army building at the corner of Ste. Marie. About 50% of the frontage has heritage value.

South Side: The flank of the Gayety theatre retains more original quality than its front, though the building is defaced with billboards. The rest of the block is a parking lot.

Ontario Street, Block D:
Ste. Marie to St. Paul -

looking east from Ste. Marie Street.

North Side: The Anglican and Caatholic ecclesiastical properties are separated by Elgin Street.

South Side: An intact collection of very fine heritage dwellings, similar in character to those found on Elgin Street. 100% Heritage value.

Ontario Street, Block E
Beyond St. Paul.

The south side, up to the railbed, is occupied by the recent infill housing described with St. Paul Street. The north side has a modern building on the corner of St. Paul followed by vacant land. Beyond this point Ontario Street passes thorugh the modern-built former railway lands, and into the Minnesota Street residential area.
